HCP has started a new program of skill development for cancer patients and their care givers so that they can engage in fruitful enterprise which will help them to gain some financial help as well. They are taught artificial jewelry making, paper bag making, baking, artefacts/handicrafts made from waste, cooking, stitching and tailoring, embroidery, eco-friendly sanitary pad making and similar such crafts, products of which can be marketed. Idea is to help these vulnerable group of poor people who can learn few skill sets to make few useful items for which there is a demand in the market. Idea is to help them learn how to catch fish by enabling them to have a viable economic proposition. This program aims to train participants in idea generation, evaluation, planning, making and finally selling their products or services.
HCP undertook a skilling program for cancer care givers on 27th March 2018 which ended on 1st June 2018 with great success. Focus was on creating unique skill set for cancer care givers (mostly women from under privileged sections of the society) drawn from all parts of the country to Bangalore. The program was launched at the Kidwai Hospital, Bengaluru. This unique initiative of HCP was supported and endorsed by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). It is notable that this is first of its kind program in the country that has been supported by SIDBI where cancer givers are getting skilled so that they can start their own business and be financially independent.
